about
I don’t think I’m the first person to wonder if they will end up alone. Maybe the first to wonder about being a weed at the bottom of a river. I grew up fly-fishing with my stepfather in New Hampshire trout streams, which is what sparked that particular imagery. In the groove of this recording, I hear the band digging into its love of the Stones and Faces.
lyrics
If I came away unscathed, would I open up my heart
Just to watch you stamp it out again?
Will I feel the way I do when oh-so many
Secrets held in for so long finally are revealed?
You don’t know me now,
You don’t know me any,
I could see you falling for me,
Then you ran.
Will I stand alone again, twisting in the wind,
Like a weed alone below some cold, dark river?
Or am I beaten down too hard to open up again,
And will I die a lonely, old, and bitter man?
