Waking Up 03:43
Waking Up (Jon Nolan) Tell me you’re wasted Beat up and broken You’re down in the valley You’re busted wide open You’re feeling a feeling Not so sure of the meaning Figure what to believe in You can’t see that you’re grieving Waking up it feels like — falling down Waking up it feels like — falling down Pick up the pieces The wind is still blowing It’s hard to move when you’re frozen It’s hard to know what you’re knowing You need a connection To slow down the fear some Another sensation A new invitation Waking up it feels like — falling down Waking up it feels like — falling down

Big Horizon 03:43
Big Horizon (Kate Redgate & Jon Nolan) So tired of making ends Meet up it don't make sense I'm always looking over my shoulder So tired of being broke down Waiting for my turn to come ‘round This roulette wheel ain't got my number Out here on the edge of town Gotta be some kind of ground… That I can make up I need a big horizon… Coming at me through the windshield See that road a’rising… To meet me where my heart is easy No more broke down affairs Like a train ain’t going nowhere So tired of standing in the station So much for bottom lines Grey skies are on my mind, but I can’t keep all those blue skies waiting Out here on the edge of town Gotta be some kind of ground... That I can make up I need a big horizon… Coming at me through the windshield See that road a’rising… To meet me where my heart is easy It rained so hard I nearly drowned ain't nothing gonna hold me down I’ve got a big horizon… Coming at me through the windshield See that road a’rising… To meet me where my heart is easy

Climb In The River (C. Murphy) We’d go down to the river when summer would come, Root beer black where the rapids run And if I’d float on my back where the current was strong, I was fine But if I decided that I could swim Like the pickerel darts or the dark eel stings I’d crash on the rocks, and my head would ring and I’d cry Climb in the river over the stones The current will carry us safely I know Change is coming, come on let’s go It’s a new day, let go I remember the time in confession I lied, It was no big deal, it was just my pride But to avoid the shame I minimized the truth And in that room, it was just us three: The old gray priest, and God, and me And two of us knew, if not all three, the real truth Climb in the river over the stones The current will carry us safely I know Change is coming, come on let’s go It’s a new day, let go And so, you see I share the blame And you watch me stumble through the changes But in your eyes the future is clear to me I walk out into a world unmasked And I find these stones still in our paths So, climb on in and on our backs let’s float downstream Climb in the river over the stones The current will carry us safely I know Change is coming, come on let’s go It’s a new day, let go

Well I woke up early but it still felt late All I want to do is tell the world to wait Sink full of dishes and mouths to feed Work these days has got me on my knees All I wanna do is get next to you Now there’s too much to do and no time to lose Well, once I was a kid and I wanted to roam Found my mom and dad and I asked for a loan Now I’ve seen a lot of places but I want you to know I still haven’t sent that money home Those were the days I had something to prove Now there’s too much to do and no time to lose Now I’m thinking about things that you and I did Filled up our house with all these kids Let’s jump in the car I don’t care who drives Pull onto the shoulder and go for a ride All I wanna do is get next to you Now there’s too much to do and no time to lose

Look Whatcha Done (Jon Nolan) Had my fill of bad faith Tasted too much ill will That cold feeling ‘round my heart I’ve had my fill Truth stays in the past Lies follow you around It’s all sand in the gears It’s just slowing us down So down to the truth now You can’t hear what I say You see ghosts in the mirror And I wish it weren’t that way All of your anger You ain’t hiding it that well It’s just the strength of your sickness It’s a sticky spell Look whatcha done to the family See the harm your words cause —--all the hurt that cascades They wash out the bridges and drown out the union we’d made Look whatcha done to the family You’ve loosened all the ties that bind For all of your bluster, not one word you muster is kind Not one word is kind There’s a chasm between us I ain’t saying that I’m dressed in white But you’re holding the trigger In the fading twilight You’ve been shoveling bad intentions Like coal into a furnace Don’t you dare be surprised when it comes back to burn us Look whatcha done to the family See the harm your words cause —--all the hurt that cascades They wash out the bridges and drown out the union we’d made Look whatcha done to the family You’ve loosened all the ties that bind For all of your bluster, not one word you muster is kind Not one word is kind Not one word is kind

Old Soldier 04:35
Old Soldier (C. Murphy) On a bed you float in a jungle in the dark On the Mekong Delta underneath the stars While boys with guns aim at your heart And you think about your brothers in that Tudor home in Mahwah Old soldier, here but always gone Old soldier still off at the war Old soldier, here but always gone Old soldier, come home In a bunkhouse you sit with your Bible and smoke While the air grows thick with troops, curses, and jokes You want to share a story but you only share a note About the language school and the motor pool in that shelter in Seattle Old soldier, here but always gone Old soldier still off at the war Old soldier, here but always gone Old soldier, come home You shielded me, I know From a war that was raging inside my home If I could… if I could lift that heavy pack And I’d take off that burden, you could finally come back Well, you asked me to meet but you never told me why And I watched your hands shake and you ordered in Thai And that story that you started you swallowed up inside And your face looked down and your eyes grew round in that restaurant in Boston Old soldier, here but always gone Old soldier still off at the war Old soldier, here but always gone Old soldier, come home Come home

As Much Love 04:27
As Much Love (Jon Nolan) She stood in the snow With fire on her feet Head in the clouds But couldn’t find sleep Got the praise that she wanted All the sweetest of words But you can only accept as much love as you think you deserve Yes you can only accept as much love as you think you deserve His hands worked the riches He always felt poor Turned to the light But found darkness once more So he tried in vain To hoard all the joy that he wants to preserve But you can only accept as much love as you think you deserve Yes you can only accept as much love as you think you deserve Peer in the window Warmth and cheer While you’re cursing yourself That you’re standing out here All the while, what you wanted Well it up and passed While you were pressing your face On a cold pane of glass Love it is patient So the preacher said But you may find that people act unkind instead Grace it don’t feel like resentful restraint I don’t know what that is But I know what it aint All those wires get twisted Til you get up the nerve But you can only accept as much love as you think you deserve…

What It Looks Like In Heaven (C. Murphy) Sometimes I fear my heart is gonna burst And I’ll watch the world fade But most times I fear that you’re gonna go first Then what would I do? It’s selfish, but true I want to know what it looks like in Heaven I’ll pick up my harp, and glide beyond the moon I want to know what goes on in Heaven But I don’t want to get there too soon With all of life’s additions And with the subtraction of time Sometimes I fear division But our love always multiplies I want to know what it looks like in Heaven I’ll pick up my harp, and glide beyond the moon I want to know what goes on in Heaven But I don’t want to get there too soon Well, it’s a half-hour before sunrise And I hear your foot on the stairs Though I’ve watched this scene a thousand times It still fills my soul more than you’ll ever know I want to know what it looks like in Heaven I’ll pick up my harp, and glide beyond the moon I want to know what goes on in Heaven But I don’t want to get there too soon No, I don’t want to get there too soon

This Fire Won’t Burn (Jon Nolan) This fire won’t burn This old heart won’t learn And I can’t get this engine to turn This fire won’t burn Sleep gives no rest Broken dreams And used up wishes Multiply like loaves and fishes Sleep gives no rest I need a win so bad I can barely remember When my prayers didn't feel cold When I had something to hold Something….something And I can't feel the sunlight Food don't fill or have no taste Patience died and left me haste And I can't feel the sunlight I can’t feel the sunlight I can’t feel the sunlight anymore This fire won’t burn
10.
Take Me With You When You Go (C. Murphy) Off the hallways of my mind there’s a narrow little room And a diary that shows how I struggled in my youth To be still within my home, with its taxiderms and prints And its fraying Persian rugs, Butcher’s Wax and antique books On a crumbling plaster wall, there’s an ancient telephone And across its wires I’d say, “Take me with you when you go.” “Down any road you know, take me with you when you go.” On the accordion of time plays an endless melody And on its notes we dance, and in its rhythms we are free Though the years seem stretched to break, the bellows tightly squeeze And these figures from my past are standing almost next to me And as we start to crash into a future we can’t know, I can hear them gently whisper, “Take me with you when you go.” “Down any road you know, take me with you when you go.” In the caverns of depression where anxiety awaits And hibernates in darkness, and hungers in its cave I have seen it shroud the sunlight, I have watched it shame its prey But even in the greatest darkness, love and friendship still remain. On the mesa of ambition where we watch our children play You and I are like the potter, and shape the memories they make As the arid world before us is cut through with salty tears Of a worried sad Creator who cries that peace won’t come this year I don’t know if it’s all ending, and if it’s ending I won’t know, But if the world around is burning, take me with you when you go. Down any road you know, take me with you when you go. You and I may never know, take me with you when you go.

about

After years apart, we really looked to squeeze as much enjoyment out of making music together again. War on Drugs, Dylan, Paul Simon, Kathleen Edwards and others played a big part in influencing this batch of songs.
