about
An allegory. A pleading by one spouse to their partner to stop and reconsider their actions, to think of how they are affecting more than just the two “parents,” and tearing the family apart. We are all connected. I think we’d all do well to be thoughtful of one another.
lyrics
Look Whatcha Done
(Jon Nolan)
Had my fill of bad faith
Tasted too much ill will
That cold feeling ‘round my heart
I’ve had my fill
Truth stays in the past
Lies follow you around
It’s all sand in the gears
It’s just slowing us down
So down to the truth now
You can’t hear what I say
You see ghosts in the mirror
And I wish it weren’t that way
All of your anger
You ain’t hiding it that well
It’s just the strength of your sickness
It’s a sticky spell
Look whatcha done to the family
See the harm your words cause —--all the hurt that cascades
They wash out the bridges and drown out the union we’d made
Look whatcha done to the family
You’ve loosened all the ties that bind
For all of your bluster, not one word you muster is kind
Not one word is kind
There’s a chasm between us
I ain’t saying that I’m dressed in white
But you’re holding the trigger
In the fading twilight
You’ve been shoveling bad intentions
Like coal into a furnace
Don’t you dare be surprised when it comes back to burn us
Look whatcha done to the family
See the harm your words cause —--all the hurt that cascades
They wash out the bridges and drown out the union we’d made
Look whatcha done to the family
You’ve loosened all the ties that bind
For all of your bluster, not one word you muster is kind
Not one word is kind
Not one word is kind

I have been out of the Wilco loop for a while now, but this album has pulled me back in. I adore it. Tweedy and co. know how to write gentle, heartfelt songs while adding just the right amount of unusual synth additions. The second half of the record ends INCREDIBLY strongly. If you've been out of Wilco for a while like me, check it out. BobandoCommando
The slashing roots rock on “Out On the Line” always makes its way to the kind of triumphant chorus that quickens the pulse. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 2, 2023
